Mangaluru: It was one of the BIGGEST and LOUDEST Fund Raising Event/Showbiz of St Aloysius Pre-University College-Mangaluru that rocked the Forum Fiza Mall on Sunday, 22 July evening, where a sea of people cheered and applauded during the stage performances, comprising of Live Band, Dancing, Beat Boxing and Singing- and they all went “Wow?”. Yes, once again for the Fifth time in a row, that a bevy of young students, past {Alumni} and present, of St Aloysius P U College belonging to ‘CAUSE’- ‘Citizen Alliance to Uphold Service and Exchange’, who had taken an initiative to raise funds for a good cause, in order to help Paschim Rehabilitation Centre-Someshwar, and De-Mercede Orphanage-Deralakatte, had organized this event to raise funds, to spread smiles to the ones who deserve much more than they get.
We live in a world with overwhelming humanitarian needs, where millions and millions of people are in need of food, water and financial help. With so many needs, where do we even begin? Does helping just one person really matter? The answer is found in Matthew 25:40 where Jesus says, “Whatever you have done to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you have done it to me.” One really does matter. You can help the needy around you in practical, creative ways. And this is exactly what a bevy of these Aloysian energetic youngsters decided to help the less fortunate and the needy with love, through a fundraising event and it turned out to be a successful venture. Great job, guys!
“You may never know what results come of your action, But if you do nothing there will be no result. The difference between what we do and what we are capable of doing would suffice to solve most of the world’s problems” had said Mahatma Gandhi, and Mother Teresa once said, “We cannot do great things on this Earth, Only small things with great love.”- and that’s exactly the members of CAUSE did in organizing this mega event “CAUSE 2018” to raise funds to support the needy centres. Being an ex-Aloysian myself, I feel proud of these young Aloysians who are doing a yeomen service towards the less-privileged society. Citizens of Mangaluru should encourage these youth by joining them and lending your support to CAUSE, who are trying hard to make a difference in the lives of the needy in the community.
Prior to the mega euphoric cultural event at Forum Fiza Mall, CAUSE also had a promotional event on 21 July at City Centre Mall-Mangaluru, where the students raised funds by selling homemade soaps, saplings, wall hangings, handmade bookmarks, chocolates etc., to be donated to the two needy centres. The chief guests for the Sunday event were Sandalwood actor Diganth Manchale, Actress-Pooja Devariya, and Actress Shreya Anchan of the upcoming Kannada movie “Katheyondu Shuruvagide”, along with Guests of honor Akshith Suvarna-President, Youth JD{S}, DK; Capt. Brijesh Chowta-General secretary, BJP, DK; Resident Director of Hotel Gold Finch-Mangaluru, Prasad Kumar Shetty; Entrepreneur Sanjay Kamath; Fr John Lang Bosco SJ -Finance Officer, St Aloysius PUC; and presided over by Fr Melwyn Mendonca Sj-Principal of St Aloysius PUC, Mangaluru.

It’s always wise to raise funds for such kind of causes through your own efforts and unique ideas. Volunteering in serving the community and the needy is generally considered an altruistic activity and is intended to promote goodness or improve human quality of life. In return, this activity can produce a feeling of self-worth and respect. Volunteering may have positive benefits for the volunteer as well as for the person or community served. It is helping, assisting, or serving another person or persons without pay. All you young volunteers belonging to CAUSE group are doing a yeomen service in helping the community for a good cause. I will discuss with my movie director and other concerned people and will see that we also contribute to this great cause”. Actresses Pooja Devariya, and Shreya Anchan also spoke and wished the project all success.
College Principal Fr Melwin Mendonca SJ also speaking said, ” Even though actor Diganth didn’t get a seat at our college when he had applied, but I am happy that he has come and graced today’s event {on a lighter side of the vein, in laughs}. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. Also ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’There is no commandment greater than these. I am really overwhelmed that these youth of CAUSE have come forward to help the less privileged and the needy, and also provide scholarships to nearly 25 poor students. I am sure that God will bless these boys and girls abundantly for their kind gesture and love towards the needy folks in the community. At St Aloysius PUC when they leave their college they become men and women for others. May God bless you all”. Following his speech, Fr Mendonca called all the dedicated members of the CAUSE group to come on to the stage, and accept a bouquet of flowers as appreciation for their hard work.
Capt Brijesh Chowta recalling his younger days at St Aloysius College as a student said, “There were not many facilities and encouragement from the management during those days, but with vast opportunities and facilities provided the college management at present, students should avail and make use of such opportunities/facilities and put into use for the right cause. These guys of CAUSE are awesome and are determined to make a difference in the society through their valuable and dedicated service. We all need to support and encourage them in their efforts, who are bound to put some smiles on the faces of the needy in the community.” Akshith Suvarna also spoke and complimenting the hard work put in by CAUSE members, assured that if any help is needed from JD {S} party, he will try to oblige them.
