Sara Abubakar and Vinaya Prasad Chosen for Rani Abbakka Award

Mangaluru: “Every year the Veera Rani Abbakka Utsav is celebrated by the Department of Kannada and Culture by the district administration in Ullal. This year we are celebrating the Veera Rani Abbakka Utsav on February 3 and 4. Renowned writer and thinker Sara Abubakar and popular film and television actress Vinaya Prasad have been chosen for the coveted Veera Rani Abbakka award”, said the minister for food and civil supplies U T Khader in a press meet held at the Circuit House here on January 19.

Addressing the mediapersons U T Khader said, “Every year we are conferring the Rani Abbakka award to achievers who have tremendously contributed to the society. This year we have chosen Sara Abubaker and Vinaya Prasad for the award. The award will consist of Rs 30,000 cash, Citation and memento. The minister for Kannada and Culture Umashree will be participating in the Utsav.”

U T Khader further said, “The Veera Rani Abbakka Utsav will be held in Mysuru on February 10 and 11 at the Maharani College Grounds. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will be taking part in the Utsav. The government has already sanctioned Rs 30 lakhs for the Utsav in Ullal, Rs 8 lakhs for the celebrations in Mysuru and Rs 12 lakh in Delhi.”

Yatri Nivas in Ullal

U T Khader further briefed that many tourists come to Ullal Sayyed Madani Dargha, St Sebastian Church, Someshwar Temple and Manjandi Dargha but the tourists are finding difficulty in getting proper accommodation. Now the Tourist department has sanctioned funds to construct a Yatri Nivas in Ullal.

The Yatri Nivas will be constructed at a cost of Rs 50 to 75 lakhs. Already the Yatri Nivas has been inaugurated in Mudipu. All tourists will be able to get accommodation during their visit to these places.
