Sastan Toll Horata Samiti holds Padayatra seeking Protection for KA – 20 Vehicles
Udupi: The National Highway Jagrathi Samithi Sastan on Sunday, November 25 held a Padayatra and submitted a memorandum to the Kota Police Station seeking protection for KA-20 registration vehicles and vehicle owners in Sastan Toll Plaza.
The protesters took out a 7 km Padayatra from Sastan Shivakripa Auditorium to the Kota Poice Station. The protesters shouted slogans against Navyug Toll Plaza Company.
Speaking to the media persons, Committee President Prathap Shetty said we have been fighting for the toll exemption for KA-20 vehicles over the last three years. The Navyug Company has announced in the newspaper that it would collect toll from 26th November for KA 20 registered vehicles. We requested to Deputy Commissioner not to collect the toll till the district minster’s meeting and she too had instructed the company authorities not to collect the toll until the meeting was held.
But now since the District Minister’s meeting scheduled on November 28 has been postponed, the company authorities are trying to collect the Toll from November 26. Because of such developments, we have requested the Kota Police to give protection to local vehicle owners, he said.
Another leader Rajesh Kaveri said, despite the opposition of the local people, we have come to know that the Navyug company is trying to collect the toll from Monday. If the company will start to collect the Toll we will protest, he warned.
National Highway Awareness Committee Secretary Vital Poojary, Legal Advisor Shyamsundar Nairy, ZP member Raghavendra Kanchan, Srinivas Poojary, Sanjeev Devadiga and others were present.
