Saudi Arabia calls for ‘self-restraint’ after US strike

New Delhi/Riyadh: Saudi Arabia has called for “self-restraint” after the US killed Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps commander Qassem Soleimani and other top military officials in an airstrike at Baghdad.

Iran has called the strike “state terrorism” by the US and threatened to retaliate against the assassinations.

As per Saudi Press agency, official sources said that the Kingdom has followed the events, “in fraternal Iraq”. Saudi Arabia attributed the strikes to “the escalation of tensions and terrorist acts (by Iran)” that the kingdom, “denounced and warned against, in the past, of their repercussions.”

Holding Iran responsible, Saudi Arabia said, “the threats posed by terrorist militias (supported by Iran) require their cessation.” With knowledge of the operations and threats exposing the security of the region, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, “in light of the rapid developments, calls for the importance of self-restraint to ward off all acts that may lead to aggravating the situation, with unbearable consequences.”

Saudi Arabia urged the international community to fulfill its responsibilities to take necessary measures to ensure security and stability of “such a vital region, to the entire world.”
