SC order on Cauvery hard to implement, says Siddaramaiah

September 13, 2016, Agencies: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the state would abide by the Supreme Court order on Cauvery water, which described it as ‘hard to implement’.

The Supreme Court order had done injustice to Karnataka, he said while addressing media after an emergency meeting of ministers.

Siddaramaiah said the state was facing a very difficult situation. “The inability to implement the 5th September judgement was the reason why yesterday’s direction came from the Supreme Court,” he said.

When a reporter asked if Karnataka had released water, Siddaramaiah said the state had been releasing water over last six days.

“The order is hard to follow, but we’ll still follow the SC order,” he said.
Siddaramaiah said he sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to meet him on Wednesday.

Siddaramaiah requested people to peace and tranquillity in the state. “In sensitive areas where Ganesh Chaturthi, Onam and BakrEid are being celebrated we have deployed security forces,” he informed the media.

He also announced a Rs 10 lakh compensation for the two individuals who have died in the violence.
