Science Talent Hunt – ‘SSTH 2016’ at Sahyadri Campus
Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Mangalore Press Club, Dr U M Bushi- Principal of Sahyadri College said, ” Sahyadri Science Talent Hunt (SSTH) is an idea conceived on the premise of the government program INSPIRE by the Department of Science & Technology, but to cater to schools and colleges which do not get a chance to make it there. Around 200 PU colleges participate in 41 different zones and winners of these zones will participate in the grand finale at Sahyadri on the 12th of November to compete against each other. Students at the SSTH exhibit their creativity in the projects and model competition. The programme is organized under the leadership of Chairman, Dr. Manjunath Bhandary , whose aim is to nurture the young brains through scientific innovations. Beyond the prize money, our intent is to provide a platform for exhibiting and sharing their ideas with their peers; allowing students to redefine the education process through experiential learning”.
Also speaking during the meet, Dr CK Manjunath- co-ordinator of the project said, “These 1500 students are the crème de la crème of the 200 colleges having received guidance in the right perspective that facilitates devising an apt road map for their future. A panel discussion with experienced personnel from diverse fields of research, industry and education will share their perspective with the audience. The eminent personalities of the panel discussion are – Dr. M. D. Tiwari, Vice Chancellor, Barkathulla University, Bhopal “Role of the University to match academics to core challenges of hardcore industries to enhance the efficiency of students in making them true engineers; Padmashri S. K. Shivakumar, Professor, Viram Sarabai Space Centre, Bangalore “Scope and applications of space research programs for the economic growth of India and to new generation students; Prof. Sanjay C. Gadkari, Head-TPD, BARC, Mumbai: “Research-based learning and role played by BARC”.; Dr. Gopalan Jagadeesh, IISc, Bangalore: “Revised Educational perspective on startup companies.”;. Deepak Thimaya, Political Analyst, will moderate the panel discussion.
Prof. Sudesh Shetty also speaking said, “This event is organised keeping the focus on improving the innovative ideas of the students and help them to further progress in the same areas as professionals. All high school and pre-university college students of the region are welcome to visit the SSTH 2016 Project Exhibition to be held on 12th November, 2016 at Sahyadri campus between 10:00am to 01:00pm. The panel discussion with eminent scientists and student interaction with the panel of scientists will happen from 2 to 4 pm.”
