Rio de Janeiro, April 19 (IANS) Brazil’s 2002 football World Cup-winning manager Luiz Felipe Scolari denied a move to coach a Chinese football league team after his friend disclosed an offer he has received from China.
Scolari has more than two years left on his current club Gremio’s contract, but he has been linked with a move to China after his friend Brazilian journalist Joao Garcia disclosed the development on Friday, reports Xinhua.
“The Chinese are chasing Felipao and have made multi-million dollar proposals. Win or lose the (Rio Grande do Sul) state championship, he will leave,” said Garcia on the social network.
However, after leading Gremio to the final of the state championship by beating Juventude 2-1 on Saturday, the 66-year-old said he will not leave Gremio although he did receive an offer from China.
“I get a proposal almost every month from China, Qatar and so on, but currently (departure) is not in my thought. If I think about leaving, I have to discuss with my family,” said Scolari.
Scolari joined Gremio in August, just weeks after being sacked as Brazil coach following the team’s disastrous 1-7 World Cup semi-final defeat to Germany.
