Scrap shop Gutted in Fire at Brahmavar
Udupi: A scrap shop was gutted in a fire near Akshaya Furniture on NH 66 at Brahamavar here on October 25 night.
The incident took place at around 8:30 pm. The locals noticed the fire and tried to douse it without success. They then informed the fire service and the police. Three fire tenders from Udupi and Malpe rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.
The owners are Moosa and his son Sameer, residents of Brahmavar. Fortunately, no one was present in the shop when the fire broke out. Though there were no casualties, the entire shop was gutted in the fire. The loss is estimated to be around Rs 2-3 lakhs.
Since there was an electric transformer installed near the shop, the fire tenders were very cautious while dousing the fire and preventing it from spreading further to the nearby buildings.
It is suspected that an electric spark from the transformer might have caused the fire.
More than 15 fire officials, police officials of Brahmavar Police Station and Home guards put their efforts in dousing the fire.
