A road laid with interlocked tiles and frequently used by tourists, was washed away up to a length of 40 metres.

As usual, boulders are being dumped to prevent sea erosion in some parts of Malpe and Thottam area. But this has not stopped the waves from damaging the side walls of the beach.

The district recorded a rainfall of 75.9 mm for the last 24 hours. Kundapur taluk received a rainfall of 63.1 mm while Karkala recorded 95.8 mm and Udupi 68.8 mm.

65 houses were completely damaged and 118 houses were partially damaged. According to the Meteorological Department, there may be heavy to very heavy rain in Udupi during the next 48 hours.

Interlock is not the solution for such errosion. One has to mount up boalders to avoid loosing of mud and then stag it with small boalders in a mess kind box. This would be the only solution for few yrs.
