Section 144 Imposed in City in View of New Govt Swearing-In Ceremony
Mangaluru: The district administration has again imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 Code of Criminal Procedure in the four taluks of the district that come under Dakshina Kannada district police, from 6 am of Wednesday till 6 am of Friday.
In his order, Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate S. Sasikanth Senthil said the Superintendent of Police has recommended imposition of the prohibitory orders in view of the swearing-in of the new government on Wednesday. Already, clashes were witnessed in Vitla police limits on Saturday and there are chances of fresh disturbances when the new government comes in, the SP had mentioned in his letter. Accordingly, Mr. Senthil ordered imposition of the prohibitory orders, which among other things, bans assembly of more than five people in public places, taking out processions, bursting crackers and carrying weapons.
Meanwhile, Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Vipul Kumar on Tuesday ordered clamping of Section 144 in Mangaluru Police Commissionerate from 2 pm of Wednesday 23 May to 6 pm of Thursday 24 May on similar grounds.
Section 144 prohibits from carrying weapons, sticks, knives, swords, blades, guns, bursting of crackers, carrying of explosive substances, celebrations, public rallies, public and political meetings, functions, tools or instruments that throw stones or such items, open slogans that disrupt law and order, degrade the security of the state or incite crimes, singing, music, provocative speeches, use of signs or numbers, preparation of hand bills, chemicals or distributing them are banned during the period.
