Segregate Garbage or Pay Fine! MCC won’t Collect Unsegregated Waste from Nov 11

Mangaluru: In the wake of many citizens calling during the Mayor Phone-In Programme about residents dumping garbage outside their gates in plastic bags, and also wet and dry waste mixed together, finally MCC has taken a firm decision to fine those who don’t segregate garbage- and also if someone is seen doing this will face a hefty fine ranging from Rs 1000 to Rs 5000. It is also noted that those dumping garage on vacant land or by the roadside will also be fined.
According to Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer, “Starting November 11, 2017 any residents leaving unsegregated garbage near their gate for collection will not be picked up. Even after so many warnings, this time we are serious about this issue, and if anyone is found dumping unsegregated waste for collection will be fined between Rs 1000 – Rs 5000. Since Mangaluru is among the 27 urban local bodies identified in the state for Swachh Survekshan 2018, it’s need of the hour that citizens start segregating waste”.
MCC Commissioner had further said that, “Kitchen waste, non-vegetarian waste, plantain leaves and tissue papers should not be mixed with plastic covers, milk sachets, metals, rubbers, and other non-degradable materials. People should segregate dry and wet waste so that it would be easy for the garbage collectors. Residents should make sure that they personally hand over waste to the waste collectors, and not leave it outside. In the meantime where residents have complained that waste collectors don’t come in time, usually when people have left to work or for other errands, for which the Commissioner has assured that issue will be dealt soon with Antony Waste Handling Cell Pvt Ltd, and that a meeting with them will be held soon, together with MCC officials for a successful implementation of waste segregation.
What is this? why we should pay Garbage collection Cess? why don’t they take all together and dump or recycle, who has the time to segregate the garbage?, its indeed ridiculous decision by Mangalore city corporation.
