About Dr TKV Bhat Memorial Endowment Lecture:

Prof. TKV Bhat Memorial Endowment Lecture was established in the year 2010 at the Association level, by professor’s surviving family members, especially Prof Bhat’s wife, Prof Vanajakshi, retired mathematics teacher. This is the 9th endowment lecture the association is organizing, where the earlier 8 lectures were held at St Aloysius College, Mangalore; St Aloysius College, Mangalore (twice); SMS College, Brahmavar; Bharathi Vikas Trust, Manipal; Vivekananda College, Puttur; Sacred Heart College, Madanthyar; SMS College, Brahmavar; and Milagres College, Kallianpur

Dr. TKV Bhat was an eminent teacher of sociology, a thinker and a researcher. He is the founder-president of Mangalore Sociology Association. A very dynamic personality and an active member of the association; familiar figure at seminars, conferences and annual meetings organized by the association. He took the leadership in staring the journal of the association – Samaja Shodhana.

Dr Bhat was born on 16th April 1937, at Thonse village in Udupi. He took his post graduate degree from Pune University and completed his PhD under the renowned sociologist, Dr YB Damle. He started his teaching career at Vijaya College, Mulki and got retired from his active service from the same college. Dr Bhat has published many articles in local dailies which proclaim his appetite for studying about contemporary social issues and sharing that knowledge with the public.

His family, wife Prof Vanajakshi, and their children continue his service to the growth of sociology in the form of this memorial endowment lecture established in the year 2010.

Dr Indira Ramarao, Formerly, Professor of Sociology, Department of Sociology, University of Mysore, Mysuru.

Presently, the President-elect of Indian Sociological Society, New Delhi. In her University career spanning 42 years (University of Mysore 1972-2014), she has held honourable positions as Chair of the Department of Sociology, Director of the International Centre and Honorary Director of the Centre for Women’s Studies at the University of Mysore.

She has served as the Secretary of the Indian Sociological Society from 2014- 2015, and as a Member of its Managing Committee from 2002 – 2006. She was President of the Karnataka Sociological Association for two consecutive terms and currently the Honorary President of the Alumni Association of the Sociology Students of the University of Mysore.
