Mangaluru: Addressing the media persons during a press meet held at Police Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Vipul Kumar, the Police Commissioner said, ” It will be exactly one month today, after I assumed this post here in Mangaluru, on 18 April 2018. And so far I have enjoyed being in this City, amidst friendly people in this City of harmony. Handling of elections being my first task after I took this office, I am happy to say that the elections went on very smoothly without any untoward incidents. Even though a few minor incidents of clashes that took place, which was brought under control by our police personnel, other than that everything went on peacefully”

“But unfortunately after the election results were announced, and when BJP party members took out a celebration procession that evening near Adyar Padau, a few miscreants hurled stones, which resulted in injuries to couple of persons in the rally. But already we have arrested eight people in this incident, and they have been booked under various sections. I will not allow anyone to take law in their own hands- trouble makers will be dealt with serious action. Mangaluru being a City of harmony, I will take all the precautions to see that no untoward incidents take place. I am thankful to all the home guards and Central Reserve Police who had helped our local police force to maintain law and order during the elections” added Vipul Kumar.

He further said, ” We will also not tolerate people sending derogatory and hate messages via whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter etc. In the recent whatsapp message with pictures that went viral about Church attacks, which created communal harmony, and in this regard we have already traced the person, and will find more persons who are doing this very soon. If anyone wants to post a message in social media, they need to prior approval from the police department. We will see that severe action is taken against those who post hate messages that will create communal disharmony. I also request the media personnel to inform us quickly if they come across any such hate messages on social media”.

” Regarding anyone who want to take out a celebration procession or hold a protest, they need to get the right permission from the police department. And also we will not allow any riders on two-wheelers during the procession, since there are chances that they break traffic rules-like not wearing helmets, ride rash, disobey police on duty etc. Any two-wheeler riders ignoring this warning will be charged with fines and other suitable actions. We will not prohibit any procession since we are here to facilitate, but it should be done in a systematic and decent way, so that the rally will not create any inconveniences to the public, or hurt them. Police will be monitoring the victory procession, or any kind of rallies or protests” said Kumar.

“We need to preserve the harmony of the City. So we will take all the necessary steps so that no trouble or any untoward incidents takes place in the City. If trouble – makers think that they can escape from us, they are out of luck, because we will crack them down soon no matter what. My aim is to preserve harmony in this friendly City. Since I came to know during my one month tenure in the office that there are lots of traffic cases, I have decided to launch a new whatsapp number, and the phone will be put into service during this press meet. The whatsapp number to send your messages/Photos of traffic rules violators is 9480802303, and the number is assigned to DCP Crime and Traffic in-charge Uma Prashanth. We need citizens help in cracking down on traffic rules violators, in order to make this City safe. Finally I want to thank the media for playing an important role during the elections, and I look forward for the similar kind of help from you all in the coming days” concluded Vipul Kumar.
