‘Sent Proposal to NHAI to Install Traffic Signals at Santhekatte, Ambalpady and Katapadi’ – SP Nimbargi

Udupi: The district police have sent a proposal to the National Highway Authority of India to install traffic signals on the National Highway 66 at Santhekatte, Ambalpady and Katapady Junction.

He was speaking to the media persons during the weekly phone-in programme at the SP office on Friday, December 14. Traffic congestion has increased at these three junctions and the traffic police cannot control the traffic because of the density of the vehicles. So the district police have written a letter to the Highway authority to install traffic signals at these three places.

As per the rule, there is no option to install traffic signals on the national highway, but without installing traffic signals it is not possible to control the traffic. The department has requested the Highway authority to sanction traffic signals at these three junctions as a special priority, said SP Nimbargi.

A caller from Udupi City complained that due to connection error the telephone calls of Udupi CPI office were coming to his house. SP assured the caller that the problem would be solved soon.

Another caller from Manipal Eshwarnagara complained that the buses not being parked properly in bus stand which is affecting the traffic movement. The SP directed the traffic police to book cases on such buses.

A caller from Santhekatte complained about traffic obstruction on the National Highway 66 near Santhekatte following improper parking of Buses on the roadside. SP Nimbaragi said that the police are working with the National Highways Authority of India to ease movement of vehicles on the stretch.

A caller from Udupi said although a footpath was laid between Kalpana Theater to the Bus-stand it was being used by street vendors. The SP assured that the traffic police would take steps to free the pavement on the stretch.

Other complaints like parking problem in the city, over speeding in Malpe- Padukere Bridge, Gambling, Shrill Horn issues were raised in the Phone-in programme.

The police officials have effectively addressed the complaints recorded during the last phone-in programme. 7 Matka cases, 4 gambling cases, 1 NDPS, 38 COTPA, 79 drunk and drive, 174 shrill horn cases, 1571 cases for riding without a helmet, 52 over speed cases were recorded after the last phone-in programme. The phone-in programme will be held effectively, he added.
