Service and Sacrifice of Police remembered on Flag Day in Udupi
Udupi: The Police Flag Day was observed amidst a colourful parade honouring serving and retired police personnel in the District on April 2.
Retired DySP PSI Rajgopal was the chief guest of the function and accepted the guard of honour. He advised the police to provide good education to their children. He also suggested them to maintain good relations with the public. The public and the police should maintain a good rapport to check the crime rate. He called upon the police personnel to be people friendly in discharging their duties. “Police should be cautious and very patient while handling sensitive issues, he said.
Laxman Nimbaragi Superintendent of Police Udupi District welcomed the gathering and said that to remember the service of retired cops and encourage police officials the flag day is celebrated attempting good relationship with the public.
Every year police flags are sold and funds collected. The money is used for the benefit of retired and working cops. It is used for the welfare of cops, to meet their medical and other expenses, he said.
A sum of Rs 5,05,734 as medical aid was handed over to 67 retired police personnel on the occasion.
Additional SP Kumar Chandra delivered the vote of thanks. Jaishanker DySP Udupi, Rishikesh Sonavane ASP Karkala, Dinesh Naik DySP Kundapur were also present.
It is truly hard to define the authority and duty of a Police personnel in India. Mostly, the Police personnel are used by political parties or protesting parties – where their presence is seen and felt. On any given day in the town of Mangalore or Udupi, one would rarely see a police man or a police woman otherwise. Traffic Police are the police seen at junctions and at some intersections.
