Seven Including Priest Booked For Organising Mass Prayer At Padukone Church

Byndoor: The Gangolli Police have registered cases against seven persons including the parish priest for organizing a prayer service at a church on the occasion of Maundy Thursday. All gatherings have banned during the ongoing lockdown.

Nada Gram Panchayat PDO had received a message from the public about a prayer session going on at the St Antony Church Padukone, Nada on Thursday, April 9 evening. When the police reached the spot, they found seven persons along with the parish priest offering prayers.

Police described the prayer session as a “clear violation” of the lockdown and booked them under the Epidemic Diseases Act, Indian Penal Code sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant), 269 (a negligent act likely to spread the infection of disease dangerous to life and 149 (an unlawful assembly comprising of a minimum of five persons.).

Gangolli Police have registered cases and investigation is on.

Nothing wrong if the 7 were residents of St Antony Church Padukone. Police may have crossed their authority!
