Shenaiah B Maben Mangaluru bags ‘Big Singer for J’ Television Gospel Singing award

Udupi: Shenaiah B Maben from Mangaluru won the Big Singer for J Television Gospel Singing Competition organized for the first time in India by Big J TV, while Agnesh Jane from Mangaluru and Aksah from Manipal bagged second and third prizes respectively.

Big singer for J Television Gospel Singing Competition season 1, that enthralled audiences not only across Coastal districts but also the Gulf countries. The competition journey which started a year ago, culminated in a grand manner at the Basel Missionaries Memorial Auditorium, Mission Compound Udupi on October 2.

The Big singer for J winner received a cash prize of Rs One lakh and trophy while second and third prize winners received trophy and certificate.

The culmination programme began with an invocation by 12 finalists. Prashanth Jathanna Director Big J Media welcomed the gathering. Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo Bishop of Udupi Diocese inaugurated the programme by lighting the lamp.

In his message, the Bishop congratulated Big J Tv Director Prashanth Jathanna for organising such a big event and said that this indeed is a good service as music unites everyone without any barriers of language or caste.

After the former inaugural function out of the 12 finalists, 10 contestants namely Reema Pandya (Mumbai), Agnes Jane (Mangaluru), Jenisha D’Souza (Mangaluru), Aksha (Manipal), Susan Mendonca (Kuntalnagar-Udupi), Shenaiah B Maben (Mangaluru), Liza (Mumbai), Angela (Mumbai), Savin Karkada (Udupi), Sherwin (Udupi) exhibited top performance.

The Final Round Jury’s Fr Denis D’Sa Kuntalnagar, Fr Valerian Mendonca Udupi, Janet Snehalatha and Sanjay John Rodrigues shared their opinion and appreciated the organizers for hosting such a grand event and said that the contestants were so talented that they deserved the awards.

After the performance, all the 12 finalists were felicitated with certificates. Finally, the Jury Fr Denis D’Sa announced the winners. The judges were felicitated with mementoes.

Steevan Sarvotham (Area Chairman of Udupi Dist CSI KSD), Pastor Joseph Jamakhandi (President Udupi district Full Gospel Association), Fr Lawrence David Crasta (Parish Priest, St Antony’s Syrian Orthodox Church Ammunje Kolalgiri), Jayaprakash Simons (Chairman UBM District Church Board and Trust Association Udupi, South Canara and Kodagu), Samson Frank (President United Basel Mission Church Council Mumbai) were also present on the occasion.

Prior to the programme Udupi branch of International Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations (IFKCA) presented the Rathnashree awards for ten eminent personalities.

Pramod Madhwaraj Udupi district minister in-charge felicitated 10 eminent personalities namely Violet Baretto (Political), Joseph G M Rebello (Social Work), Sr Rose Agnes (Education), Dr Susheel Jathanna (Medical), Rancy Karkada (Sports), John R D’Silva (Entrepreneur), Fr Chethan Lobo (Media), Sarala Lillian Soans (Poetry), Laren Pinto ( Art) and Donath D’Almeida (Media) on the occasion. IFKCA leaders Louis Lobo, Denis D’Silva, Dr Neri Cornelio and others were present.
