Shilpa and Robin win 9th Global Konkani Music Award, Henry D’Souza Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Mangaluru: The 9th Global Konkani Music Awards ceremony was held at Kalangann, Shaktinagar here on December 10.
The programme began with a welcome song. Arun Raj Rodrigues welcomed the gathering. All the nominees were felicitated by the Mandd Sobhann team.
Sangeet Samrat Henry D’Souza Mumbai of ‘Ye Ye Katrina’ fame, was bestowed with the ‘3rd Global Konkani Music Lifetime Achievement Award’. The Award consists of a cash amount of Rs 1 lakh, memento and citation.
After receiving the Lifetime Achievement award, Konkani Samraat Henry D’Souza addressed the gathering and said, “From the past 53 years I am into music and music is my passion. I have sung, composed, directed and produced many songs. In my 53 years of music career, I have received many awards but today I was conferred with the 3rd Global Konkani Music Lifetime Achievement Award by the Mandd Sobhann. I am overwhelmed after receiving this award and I am very grateful to Mandd Sobhann for choosing me for this prestigious award. Mandd Sobhann has taken the Konkani to the global level. At the same time, Mandd Sobhann also needs financial support to recognize the achievers and honor them. I urge the Konkani speaking people to support Mandd Sobhann to hold more and more such programmes in the coming days.”
The best female singer award 2016 was won by Shilpa Tejaswini Cutinha and the best male singer award was bagged by Robin Sequeira. Winners of other awards also spoke on the occasion.
Internationally acclaimed Singer, Actress, Composer and Songwriter Vasundhara Das, was the Chief Guest for the day. Golden Voice of Goa, Lawry Travasso and team enthralled the audience with their melodious voice. Nach Sobhann troupe presented scintillating dances. The Singing Club of Mandd Sobhann Sumell and the Blue Angels Choir presented melodious songs.
Arun Raj Rodrigues announced Mandd Sobhann’s Global Cine Award from next year. This is a golden opportunity for Konkani films. The award will be given once in two years and the Global Konkani Music Awards will also be conferred once in two years from next year, he said.
