Shiradi Ghat Road will not be closed During Concreting – Minister Rai

There is strong opposition to close the Shiradi Ghat road during the second phase of the concrete work. If the road will be closed completely during the concreting work the road users will face severe problems and movement of vehicles in the Charmadi Ghat will increase. At Shiradi Ghat the narrow roads and curves should be widened and made way for free vehicular movement. Whenever there is a need to close the road, for a week or 15 days the road should be closed in the particular area taking measures to allow light vehicles on that road. The police officers and the Deputy commissioner should meet the chief engineer Laxman Rao Peshwe of the National Highway department and visit the spot for inspection.

NH Engineer Ramesh said that at present a report has been prepared after inspecting National highway 234 – B C Road junction to Charmadi Ghat. The road is 4.5 to 5.5 meter wide with many hairpin bends. During the rainy season, these roads suffer mudslides on both sides of the road. To strengthen the road and avoid mud slides 536 loads of Aggregate is needed. The total cost of the project is Rs 6 crore.

Responding to the engineer Ramesh’s concern, Rai opined that Rs 1.5 crore is needed for widening the narrow Shiradi ghat road and close the open drainage to avoid completely closing the Shiradi Ghat road.

Deputy commissioner Dr Jagadeesha suggested to open temporary hospitals so that it will be easier to treat the injured during emergencies. At present, we do not have any such facilities. Dr Jagadeesha instructed the Highway authorities and the health department officers to identify places for this purpose.

The second phase of the Shiradi Ghat road work will be started after November 15. The materials and the equipment will be brought to the construction site. At present the second phase of the drainage work in these areas is going on and work will be completed by November 15, said Engineer Ramesh.

ADC Kumar, Sanjay Bijur, SP Bhushan Borase, District Health officer Dr Ramakrishna and other officers were also present.
