Shiroor Lakshmivara Theertha is not following Sanyasa Dharma – Pejawar Swamiji

Udupi: Senior Swamiji of Pejawar Math Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji on Wednesday said that Shiroor Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji is not following the Sanyasa Dharma. That is why the other seven Swamiji’s have decided to not handover the Shiroor Maths presiding deity ‘Sri Anna Vittala’.

There are also allegations that the priests at Shiroor Math, one of the Ashta Maths have failed to perform the puja to the presiding deity ‘Sri Anna Vittala’.

The Swamiji of Ashta Math other than Kaniyur and Puttige Maths took part in a meeting held under the leadership of the Pejawar Math Swamiji on Monday night and decided that the presiding deity, which is currently under the possession of Palimaru Swamiji Sri Vidhyadheesha Theertha Swamiji, would be handed over to the Shiroor Math Swamiji Sri Lakshmivara Theertha only after he appoints a junior Swamiji.

It is said that the Shiroor Math Swamiji, who was sick a few days ago, had decided to hand over the presiding deity to Adamaru Math Swamiji to perform the puja. It is the rule in the Ashta Maths that the respective Swamiji should be performing the puja to the presiding deity of their Maths daily. In case of some emergency, other Swamijis can perform the rites, given that the puja is offered daily. However, the Adamaru Math Swamiji handed over the Pattad Devaru to the present Paryaya Palimaru Swamiji.

It was also decided at the meeting that the Sode Vadiraj Math Swamiji, who is the Swamiji for the Dwandwa Math of Shiroor Math, will perform the puja to the idol. The idol is currently offered prayers at Sri Krishna Math.

On Wednesday Pejawar Swamiji speaking to media persons said, “Shiroor Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji is not following the Sanyasa Dharma. If he is not following the rules of Sanyasa then how can we hand over the presiding deity ‘Sri Anna Vittala’ to him, so we did not hand it over to him. There are no other reasons for this. I will support the decision of other Swamiji’s which was taken on Monday during the meeting. The presiding deity ‘Sri Anna Vittala’ would be handed over to the Shiroor Math Swamiji Lakshmivara Theertha only after he appoints a junior Swamiji”, he said.
