Shiroor Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji laid to rest
Udupi: The mortal remains of Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math was laid to rest amidst chanting of mantras and full honours on the premises of the Shiroor Moola Math near Hiriyadka on Thursday, July 19 evening.
The body was brought in a procession with a large number of devotees from Udupi to Shiroor Moola Math.
The last rites of the Swamiji, the 30th Mathadhipathi of the Shiroor Math, was performed near the math premises in accordance with Vedic customs.
A host of politicians, officials from the Udupi district administration and devotees had gathered there.
Shiroor Swamiji died in the Kasturba hospital Manipal on Thursday Morning.
The Udupi district police have deployed additional police personnel to control the situation. IGP western Rang Arun Chakravarthi and SP Laxman Nimbargi personally monitored the security arrangements.
