Shiroor Swamiji Kick-Starts Campaign, firm on Contesting Elections
Udupi: Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji of Shiroor Math kick-started his campaign for the Assembly elections from Malpe on Sunday, April 8.
The Swamiji along with his supporters offered prayers at the Vadabhandeshwara Temple Malpe.
Recently Shiroor Swamiji had expressed his interest in contesting the Assembly elections either as a independent candidate or from the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Later speaking to media persons Swamiji said, “Today I have offered prayers to Lord Balarama. I had asked for a ticket from the Bharatiya Janata Party and the party has not announced the tickets for all the 224 assembly constituencies. I am still hopefull that the party will choose me as their candidate. From Monday April 9, I will visit all the villages in the Udupi Assembly constituency and create awareness among the people to cast their valuable votes to the right candidate. Only 60 percent of the voters are now casting their votes, my intention is that 100 percent voters should cast their votes in Udupi. As per the election commission guidelines we should get permission before visiting the villages and we will do it from tomorrow”.
When media persons asked him, what was his reaction if the BJP rejected him the ticket, the Swamiji said, “I have not received any information from them yet. If they offer me the ticket, I would be happy to contest from the BJP. If they do not offer me the ticket, I will contest as an independent candidate. I am firm on my decision”.
When asked about the support from other Swamiji’s of the Asta Math, Swamiji said, “Pejawar Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji is senior for all the Asta Maths. He is a elder brother and teacher for all of us. I don’t want to talk about any other Swamijis. I have kept my trust on God and he will lead every one,”
