Shiroor Swamiji Laxmivara Theertha Died of Suspected Poisoning!

Udupi: The hospital sources suspect that the Shiroor Swamiji Sri Laxmivara Theertha died due to poisoning on July 19 at 8:30 am.

Dr Avinash Shetty speaking to the mediapersons said, “Shiroor Swamiji was brought to the hospital at 1:05 am. Earlier he was admitted to a private hospital in Udupi. From Udupi, he was shifted to Manipal hospital and was critically ill when he was brought here”.

Dr Avinash further said, “When the Swamiji was brought to the hospital his condition was critical, he was struggling to breathe and his BP was very low. During the medical investigation, we found that he had massive gastro internal bleeding. We tried our best to save him but without responding to the treatment he breathed his last at 8:30 am”.

Dr Avinash also said, “We had kept him in the ICU and had given blood but his condition deteriorated. Due to multiple organ failure and severe bleeding he breathed his last. According to the medical reports, there is a suspicion that he was poisoned. We have informed the police and the police will investigate and take necessary action in this regard.

Shiroor Swamiji’s body has been sent for postmortem at the KMC hospital in Manipal in presence of Manipal Police.

According to reports, the Sode Math Swamiji will take a call on the last rites of Sri Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji. He was the 30th Swamiji of Shiroor Math.

The Swamiji grabbed the attention after he had announced that he would contest the Assembly elections as an Independent candidate or from the BJP, if given a ticket, from Udupi constituency in the recently concluded Karnataka assembly elections. When the BJP denied the ticket for him to contest, he withdrew his nomination. After withdrawing his nomination to contest as an Independent, Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji was not seen much in the public.

In March, an emergency meeting of Swamijis of the Asta Maths in Udupi was called and it was decided to take action against Laxmivara Theertha Swamiji for his allegations against them. A TV channel had broadcasted an alleged audio clip of the Swamiji stating that he had a child and Swamijis of other Asta Maths too had children. However, the Shiroor Swamiji has clarified that he did not mean to say it and somebody had made fun of him. He also clarified that the clipping was six months old and he had approached the courts about it.
