Shiroor Swamiji’s decision to Contest Elections a Surprise – Pramod Mdahwaraj

Udupi: “Shiroor Math’s Sri Lakshmivara Theertha Swamiji’s decision to contest, either as an independent candidate or as a BJP candidate if BJP offers a ticket, has come as a surprise to me”, said Udupi district minister in-charge Pramod Madhwaraj in a press meet on March 11.

Speaking to the mediapersons Pramod Madhwaraj said “I was shocked to hear the decision of Swamiji. However, I welcome his move as anyone in a democratic country can contest the elections from anywhere, representing the party of his/her choice”.

“I have nothing to do with the Swamiji’s decision. Moreover, it is the voters who will decide the fate of the contestants. However, I am immensely happy of the love pouring in for my work and commitment from the Swamiji”.

The minister said he would not trust the good wishes showered on him by the Swamiji completely as there might be a possibility that this particular act was part of the poll strategy. He said that he had spoken to the Swamiji and the latter told him that he was inspired by the blessings offered to him by Lord Hanuman to contest the elections. He added that he was fine with the Swamiji contesting the elections or not, as both might prove beneficial or otherwise of him winning the elections.

Speaking about Rahul Gandhi’s Udupi visit Pramod said that Rahul Gandhi will be visiting Kaup, Mangaluru and Karwar in his proposed visit on March 20 and 21. The remaining assembly constituencies for his visit will be considered in the next round of his visit, he added.

Unless this Swamy contests on BJP or Cong I ticket, he has no chances of getting even 10000 votes. Pamma knows that too well. He may just be worried that he is being tricked.
