New Delhi, Jan 7 (IANS) Upcoming Indian talent Siril Verma rose 11 spots to claim the top spot in the junior men’s category in the latest Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings which were issued on Thursday.
There was another Indian in the top three with Chirag Sen occupying the third spot, behind Toma Junior Popov of France.
Verma was in good form in 2015 and was the runner-up at the junior world championships last August.
Among the seniors, London Olympics bronze medaliist Saina Nehwal continued to hold on to the second rung in the women’s singles rankings. Carolina Marin of Spain continued to reign supreme at the top, while Li Xuerei of China is ranked third.
P.V. Sindhu continued to occupy the 12th spot.
Meanwhile, Kidambi Srikanth is ranked ninth in the men’s singles category. The 22-year-old from Guntur is the only Indian in the top ten.
Srikanth’s compatriot Parupalli Kashyap lies at the 15th spot, while H.S. Prannoy and Ajay Jayram are ranked 20th and 21st respectively.
In the women’s doubles section, Jwala Gutta and Ashwinin Ponappa take the 14th spot while Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy are at the 17th position in men’s doubles.
