Simply Fraud! The Curious Case of Efficient Brainy and Dr Shivanand Patil

Mangaluru: This is a report about the claims of an enterprise called Efficient Brainy from Belgaum who have opened a branch at Puttur called as Smart brainy. They have been making claims that through some secret methods they can develop the whole brains of children through a program called Whole brain development program! The brains could be developed to such an extent that the children could read blindfolded, in other words without light from the object falling on the retina. They had been circulating and had also posted on the net a video of Dr Shivanand S. Patil certifying that by the technique used by Efficient Brainy children could see without light falling on the retina. A number of complaints were lodged about this cheating and a specific complaint was handed over the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada who passed an order restraining Smart Brainy of Puttur from making claims that they could train children to see blindfolded or by touch or smell.

A complaint was also lodged with the Karnataka Medical Council which conducted an inquiry and replied that this complaint could not be taken up. Since I was astonished as how the endorsement of a quack training would not be considered as a misconduct, I had mailed the KMC for copies of all the correspondence made about my complaint. Since no reply was forthcoming an application was given under the Right to Information Act to force the documents out of them and the whole set has been made available sent by post which was delivered today.

In this letter, Dr Shivananda Patil apologizes and makes an excuse that he is not endorsing the claims of Efficient Brainy and Efficient Brainy have also given him a letter that the video has been removed. Dr Patil has also produced a medical certificate that he is suffering from a brain haemorrhage and hence cannot attend the hearing of the KMC. However. In the video, he can be clearly heard praising Efficient Brainy and their watermark throughout the footage! It is available on youtube at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29hbBwcRT-0. That Dr Patil is contradicting himself is unquestionable because in one of the communications he apologizes while on the other he says the Karnataka Medica Council cannot take action.

In the meanwhile Efficient Brainy has been hauled to consumer court by two parents who had admitted their children to their course at Puttur. Since these parents and some members of Karnataka Rajya Vigyana Parishat had conducted a press conference at Puttur releasing the letter of the DC they have threatened to sue them for defamation. Well, it would be good for efficient brainy and their ilk to understand that truth cannot be defamatory!

Attached to this are letters given by Dr Shivanand Patil and Efficient brainy which are totally false as a look at the video would show. Wonder how such cheating can go on in this modern age of scientific knowledge that someone can claim that children can see without light falling on the retina!
