Sippin’, Munchin’, Singin’ and Dancin’ mark FMMC ‘Cansurvive Dinner Gala’
Mangaluru: It was a great evening where a bunch of doctors and students of Fr Muller Medical College Hospital took a break from their hectic hospital duties, hung up their white coats, and left their stethoscopes at the hospital, and met for a social gathering at the ‘Dinner Gala’ to raise funds for the Cansurvive Campaign which started on 22 January and will end on 11 February 2017. The crowd for the ‘Dinner Gala’ was predominately mixed with staff, doctors and student of FMMC, their friends and well-wishers, who were seen Sippin’, Munchin’, Singin’ and Dancin’ all for the good cause of raising funds for the Cansurvive.
Members of “Sea Seven”band from Mangaluru, and the duo of “Split-fingers” band from Bengaluru performed live with some of the best Western and Bollywood numbers, which made some of the revelers to get on the dance floor. During this Gala, an auction of autographed merchandise from Cricketer Yuvraj Singh along with a painting by renowned artist Darren Mascarenhas was held. The auction merchandise included shirts, caps and autographed real time cricket match balls autographed by Yuvraj Singh, which had been provided by YouWeCan, an NGO headed by Yuvraj Singh. With the latest scores set by India’s top cricketer, the organizers were able to sell the memorabilia without any difficulties, thereby raise funds for the cause.
This Gala Dinner was part of the CanSurvive Campaign, an initiative by the staff and students of Father Muller Medical College Hospital designed to create awareness as well as raise funds for patients with curable cancer. CanSurvive campaign kicked off with the Lavender Ribbon Drive on January 22nd, The lavender ribbons were a sign of support towards creating awareness for curable cancer where people have to wear them from Jan 22nd till February 11 as a part of the campaign. The ribbons were made available across more than 20 associate partner stores in the city, and it was a successful beginning of this campaign.
Following close on its heels after the Lavender Ribbon Drive, a “Bake sale” was organized at City Centre Mall to raise funds for this campaign, which not only had sale of Cup cakes, Brownies and other goodies, but also featured nail painting by Sancha Nazareth, live acoustic guitar performance by Shawn Rego, games and Ground sports Fitness Gym team conducting a health and fitness round, challenging people to perform some cardio and core workout. There was also a sale of handmade jewellery created by FMMC student Dr. Roshni Rajan; Polaroid camera pictures booth; a Dance performance by Nicholas pinto, student of St. Aloysius along with his group crazy antics; songs by “Nightingale of Mangaluru” Jacqueline Fernandes, followed by another of Kudla’s favourite singer Munita Veigas. The event also saw an Enfield Bike Rally.
The fun and for this Cansurvive Campaign doesn’t end here- because there are still three more fundraising events coming up, where theorganizers are looking forward for your unstinted support and encouragement in order to make this Campaign a grand success.
Run for a Cause- 5K:
Tie up your laces…and hit the ground running or walking for a great cause! On Feb 5th, there will be “Run for a Cause” – a 5 kms run/walk which will begin at 6:15 am from the Father Muller Medical College Stadium, ( easy entry for this stadium is from the Kankanady Pumpwell side/Karavali Circle) and will be flagged off by Mangalore’s Superbike’s Association. Along with the run participants of Cansurvivors, various Olympic and Para-Olympic athletes will also take part. There will also be the guest appearance by two athletes namely eight-time Guinness World Record Winner Marathon Runner Rakshith Shetty; and also Four-time International Sprint Medal Winner Ln Panna Prasad, who will take part in the run. This session will also include a training set by Ground Sport Fitness.

Laugh Out Loud-a Comedy Night with Naveen Richard:
Naveen Richard, stand- up comedian of international fame will showcase Laugh Out Loud, a comedy night at the Academy Hall auditorium, Father Muller institution on February 11 from 7.30 pm. onwards.
A law graduate turned stand-up comic, Naveen Richard, says he found his true calling in comedy. From making faces in front of the mirror as a child to becoming one of the rising stand up comedians in the country, Naveen Richard has come a long way. A graduate from School of Law Christ University, he went on to pursue what he found was his ‘true calling’ – theatre and stand up.
Naveen Richard is a comedian, actor and writer based out of Bangalore. He is also a member of the Youtube sketch comedy group Them Boxer Shorts. He started off as a theatre actor and then went on to take up Stand Up comedy in 2011. Since then he has performed at over 250 shows at venues all across the country and even lands as far away as Singapore. On more than one occasion. He wrote and acted in several sketches on the Comedy Central Show “The Living Room” and is now a member of the sketch comedy group Them Boxer Shorts.

Profits made from all the events organized will be donated to the Cansurvive fund to aid financially challenged patients with curable cancer. Winners from various events will be awarded prizes such as Jet airways flight tickets, lunch or dinner coupons at fine dining restaurants like Hotel Taj Gateway etc, vouchers from other reputed businesses. The organizers encourage the participation of citizens from walks and render their support towards this noble cause. In lieu with the motto of Father Muller’s ‘Heal and comfort’ the campaign is also aimed to spread the message of hope that ‘Together we can make a difference’.
