Six Involved in Gambling During COVID-19 Lockdown Arrested

Mangaluru: The Punjalkatte police arrested 6 persons involved in gambling at Kajekar, Bantwal Taluk here on April 19.

The arrested have been identified as Mustafa alias Munna ( 48), Haidar (37), Abdul Nawaz (40), John Moras (44), Shabbir (26), and Lokesh (48) from Bantwal and Beltangady.

According to the police, on getting reliable information that some people were involved in gambling at Kajekar, Bantwal. The police immediately got into action, raided the place and arrested 6 persons involved in gambling. All the six accused violated the COVID-19 lockdown norms and were involved in gambling. The police seized Rs 2,15,100 cash from their possession.

Seven others succeeded in fleeing from the spot and search is on for them.

The district administration has imposed section 144 to avoid people gathering in large numbers but the accused violated the section and were involved in gambling.

A case has been registered in the Punjalkatte police station under section 269, 270 and 34 IPC and 87 KP Act.
