Skill Training will Help Aspirants get Job Easily – Pramod Madhwaraj

Udupi: The Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Government of Karnataka organised a Job Mela and Skill Development Training programme at the district indoor Stadium Ajjarkad here on May 19.

The programme began with an invocation, Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty deputy director for the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports welcomed the gathering. Pramod Madhwaraj minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports and also district minister-in-charge inaugurated the Job Mela and Skill Training programme by lighting the lamp.

In his message, Madhwaraj said, India has the world’s largest youth population. By 2020 India is set to become the world’s youngest country with 64 percent of its population in the working age group of 28 which is an asset only if our youngsters are skilled and oriented to serve the nation. In this direction, we should prepare our youth. Udupi district is considered the most developed region of Karnataka. Our youth are participating in many Job Fairs but fail to secure jobs. The department of Youth empowerment and sports has decided to hold the Job Melas in every district by giving skill development training to the aspirants. 150 hours of Skill training will help aspirants to get jobs easily.

The state government has introduced the Kaushalya Karnataka scheme and the enrolment drive camp for the unemployed youth across the state. The State government has set a target to provide skill-based training to 9,100 youth in the Udupi district. The district does not lack in resources. The students of the district are ahead in SSLC and PUC results every year. In spite of being educated, most of the rural youth fail to find jobs since they lack skills that the industry requires. Through this programme, we will not only impart skills but also provide placement opportunities after the training, he added.

As many as 1500 students registered at the job fair. About 40 companies including Infosys, Digi Call, Vee Technology, HDFC, SBM, Wipro, Kotak, United Toyota, BMW, Tata Motors and others took part in the fair. There was a huge rush of students from Udupi district at the job fair. There were serpentine queues for application forms as the companies had various offers for candidates irrespective of their qualification.
