Smart City is State and Union Govt Project and not BJP’s gift – Mayor
“Mangaluru has been selected in the list of Smart cities for its own credentials and not because of any favour of the Union government”, said Mayor Harinath in a press meet held at his chamber here on October 4.
Addressing the mediapersons Harinath said, “Opposition leader Monappa Bhandary had stated, “Mangaluru has been selected in the list of smart cities but the MCC is still in deep slumber”. Today I want to convey the message that Mangaluru has all the credentials and based on that, it has been selected for the smart city project. This is not a favour of the BJP, experts from the central government after a thorough study had sent a report to the Union government and based that, Mangaluru has been selected. Some opposition leaders take credit saying that smart city is the project of the BJP. But in reality, it is a joint project of the Union and state government”.
He further said, “MCC will also invest Rs 79 crore for the smart city project. When Senior politician Ramakrishna Hegde was the chief minister, the Mangalore City Corporation was thrice awarded the best city award and the cash prize. The MCC has always been alert, because of its performance it has been able to receive the best city award thrice. But the sad part is that the opposition leader Monappa Bhandary has woken up now”, he said.
He further said that we have received Rs 100 crore from the CM’s Urban development programme, we have called for tenders for four projects in the first phase and rest work have been completed. In the second phase, 124 projects have been sanctioned of which 89 are completed and the remaining are under progress. In the third phase out of 169 projects, 66 projects have been completed and rest are under progress. Under the premium FAR funds, we have started the footpath work in all the important roads in the city and in the coming days we will utilize the drainage development funds to complete the footpath work. In Pumpwell we are concreting the road and the road repair work at Kankanady-Pumpwell has already been started.
He further said, “There are complaints from the public that the MRPL road is in a pathetic condition. We have sent a letter to the Chief minister and the Chief secretary of the CM has sent a letter the DC on September 26, 2016, to take action against MRPL. The road has been completely damaged because of the huge trucks belonging to MRPL using the road. It is the duty of MRPL to repair the road as soon as possible. If the MRPL will not repair the road within 10 to 20 days, I will take a lead and stage a protest against MRPL”, said Mayor Harinath.
When asked what kind of protest will be held, Harinath said, “I will not reveal it now, but will surely take the lead to stage the protest in front of MRPL for repairing the road”.
Former mayor Sashidhar Hegde, Lancelot Pinto, Kavitha Sanil, Appi and others were also present.
Despite two decades BJP is being elected from Mangalore, the only contribution from party is pub attack, morning mist, church attacks, moral police and cow vigilance.
Smart city need smart think people. But city had dearth of smart people who don’t even know to elect wise people’s representative.
The intelligent people’s district is now fast becoming ‘Nagpur’ of Karnataka.

Someone needs to remind this genius that smart city is a brainchild of Shree Modji. This didn’t exist during congress rule. This bickering by local congress politicians shows how the smart city is doomed to fail.
Chandigarh was know to be one of the best planned urban city of India even PM Modi in not even CM of Gujarat. The city of Jaipur one of India’s best planned city, named after it’s founder Maharaja Jaisingh II.Mughal emperor Shahjahan in 1639 was the mark of the shift of the capital of the great Indian rulers to its roots. It is said that it was better planned than Agra (a non-walled city), therefore also more secure. Fatehpur Sikri, located just few miles from Agra, today a ghost city (Unesco heritage), was constructed by Akbar in honor of his son… Read more »
