Social Activist Sowraj Busts Pick Pocket Gang at Balmatta
Mangaluru: Social activist Sowraj is always in the news for highlighting anti-social issues and exposing illegal activities in and around Mangaluru.
On October 29, at around 10:30 am, when Sowraj was passing by he saw a man involved in the act of pickpocketing at Balmatta. Sowrajimmediately got into action and caught the man red-handed.
The man has been identified as Nasir from Kerala, presently residing in Mangaluru.
Speaking to mangalorean.com Sowraj said, “On October 4, my friend’s wallet was stolen and Rs 40,000 was withdrawn by using ATM card. In this connection, a case was filed in the Pandeshwar Police station. We were also able to get the CCTV footage of this man withdrawing money from the ATM, which has been handed over to the police. On October 29, at around 10:30 am, I found the man near Balmatta and caught hold of him.”
Sowraj further said, “While checking we found Rs 9000 in his shirt pocket. Nasir has another two associates, who are helping him in his crime. The gang travels in buses during rush hours and pickpockets unsuspecting passengers.”
Recalling an incident Sowraj said, “Recently when I was travelling with the Swamiji by bus, Nasir stole his wallet. Nasir was caught but we were not able to find the wallet with him, so we let him go. But the Swamiji was sure that his wallet was stolen by Nasir. This time he was caught red-handed and handed over to the police. We handed him over to the Bunder police station but the police there said that the crime spot was under the jurisdiction of the Pandeshwar police station. Later we handed him over to the Pandeshwar police station. We also handed over Rs 9000 recovered from him to the Pandeshwar police and asked them to do a thorough investigation”.
“The gang of three travel in buses during rush hours and pickpocket unsuspecting passengers. One person steals the purse and passes it on to the other. The police should take strict action against such people, they should not file petty cases against such criminals and let them go”, said Sowraj.
