“Sounds Fishy” is a Hard Rock / Ambient Metal act based in Mangaluru. The band was formed with an intention to render to its listeners the true concept of Rock. Formed in early 2016, a bunch of six friends who were earlier parts of various local Rock acts joined hands to form “Sounds Fishy”. The band‘s main influences have been Dream Theater, Deep Purple, Megadeth, Ronnie James Dio, Seether, Steel Panther, Toto, Scorpions, Pink Floyd. etc. Apart from winning, jamming and performing several gigs around the country, the most prized moment for the band was when their debut original composition “Sympathetic Race” was air played on the United Kingdom’s leading Metal Radio station called ‘Metal Meyhem’ at the 69x Radio show hosted by Mandy Lawrie. Mangaluru: “The message is in the music, now if you’re ready the band’s got the notion, To in motion-Well now it looks like the big fun has just begun- Let’s rock the house, Let’s shock the house, Boom boom shake the room -Let’s rock the shock the house all night, All right don’t stop don’t stop, Oh bang that thing to the beat of the drum. Now the rhythm’s making you, Wanna dance and sing, And otherwise do your thing, Well swing to the music, Woo, Listen. So here’s to your health now especially. Make it funky. The house starts rocking When the drummer starts socking. So party inside and out yeah. Shout to the music now- Let’s rock the house. Let’s shock the house- Music from the soul of man, and the heart of woman”-yes, that’s how the scene would be when Mangaluru’s newest and hottest Hard Rock Band “Sound Fishy” hits the stage for a live gig. And when they began to play, the audience knows it would be treated to an unforgettable live show. And that’s “Sound Fishy” and their live shows are!
Their playing can be described with one word: captivating. They mesmerize with their passionate playing to hold the audience spellbound, and the audience gives them a well-deserved applaud. Their performance is filled with a potency that gives the music life and vibrancy, and the band members will tear into it with an intensity that will be overwhelming. Knowing a few members from their earlier band “Avalanche Brakedown” and their performance on stage, I can say is that they are a dynamic group whose personal connection lends poignancy to their music and spark to their performances.
Pulsating, heart-stopping reels and jigs, their music defies an audience to remain seated–simply exhilarating! Whether mesmerizing the audience with a slow classic rock hits like “Hotel California” by Eagles/ ”Another Brick in the Wall” by Pink Floyd or busting bow hair on foot-stomping hard-rock hits like” Rock you like a Hurricane” by Scorpions/”Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi and many more like Iron Maiden, Motherjane, Steel Panther, Steelheart, Deep Purple, Toto, Whitesnake, these musicians can deliver, straight from their heart. With their superb stage performances, “Sounds Fishy” could be a much appreciated live act throughout Mangaluru and surrounding areas in coming days when they schedule their live gigs. The band members have colourful embodiment of talents that spreads positivity around them. Their performances and their music has brought a sense of freshness which grabs the listener with a new found energy.
Their unique rock/hard-rock influences have brought them firmly into the spotlight of the mainstream. Their music is full of life and you will enjoy their performance when they go live. It is the expression of six distinct musical sensibilities that dissolve into each other to bring forth a truly unique sound. Their music is often so well blended that you will experience the honey like smooth consistency in it. No doubt, ‘Sound Fishy’ is one of the upcoming thrilling, innovative acts on the music rock scene, with the unique reputation of enthralling audiences in any kind of setting-from college music festivals, live concerts to pub gigs. One has to watch these guys play live- their prominent electric guitar riffs, bright synthesizers, a homogeneous sound and message, and the pitch-correcting software Auto-Tune are superb. This “peppy” band who are heavy on clipped rhythms and chugging guitars and mesmerizing keyboards are sure to entertain everyone once they are on stage live.
Hailing from diverse genres in music, “Sounds Fishy”, a Mangaluru based Hard Rock / Ambient Metal band featuring six introverts was formed in late 2016. The band kick-started as a Five man band only to participate in a “Battle of Bands” competition organized by “Alive India” and be crowned the “Best Band of Mangaluru”. Four of the Five members belonged to the Band “Avalanche Brakedown” which set an incredible mark in Mangaluru in 2014 – 2015 and even winning the “Best Band of Mangalore” in 2015. Looking at this as an opportunity the band participated amidst 20 odd bands and struck their way through to the finals and bagged the “Runners Up”. Ever since then the band jammed and won several Battle of the bands across the coast and represented Mangaluru on various platforms all over the country.
The Bands Tone was developed in a home studio called “Mac Studios” (Maclean D’souza – Keyboardist) and the band was regularly gigging. The time had come to work on constructive music which could be listened and connected to all walks of life. The band had composed several songs especially for competitions and then decided to record several of them. There were changes in Line ups. Dylon D’souza, former Lead Guitarist left to the UK for higher studies. The band called in Ramprasad Ashok, a Banker by profession to fill in the Guitar duties. Floid Craig Pereira needed a break, so Leon Patrao filled in for the Bass duties. The band added an addition to the guitaring section by calling up Clyde Lobo.
“The Band then saw themselves being good and this was it“ – recalls Renston Fernandes, the lead vocalist of the band. “Sounds Fishy” comprises of: Ashwin Xavier Sequeira – Drums; Floid Craig Pereira – Bass Guitar / Backing Guitars; Maclean D’souza – Keyboard / Synth; Ramprasad Ashok – Riff Master / Backing Guitars; Clyde Lobo – Lead Guitar / Backing Vocals; and Renston Fernandes – Lead Vocals
Some of the major influences of the band have been Ghost, Dream Theatre, Iron Maiden, Motherjane, Steel Panther, Steelheart, Deep Purple, Toto, Whitesnake, Queensryche, Wolfmother, Rainburn, and many other bands. “Apart from winning, jamming and performing several gigs around the country, the most prized moment for the band was when our debut original composition “Sympathetic Race” was being air played on the United Kingdom’s leading Metal Radio station called ‘Metal Meyhem’ at the 69x Radio show hosted by Mandy Lawrie” said Renston speaking to Team Mangalorean. Yes indeed, this is the first ever Mangaluru Based Band who’s song was played on a Radio Station in the UK.
The band has performed on various occasions including corporate, launches, and fundraising charity shows. The Band has plans of further releasing several singles within this year and has set plans in 2020. The band is currently focused on bringing the Rock/Metal scenes back to life. Ashwin, the drummer rightly says “We are the scenes now and there’s no turning back. We’ve shot the bullet, let it pass out of the flank and not get stuck in between. Bands that have hit huge stage started off local and small.”
The band has plans of releasing a full-fledged album in the near future. The debut original “Sympathetic Race” corresponds to the enormous and adverse ways of Hardship that a common man undergoes all over the world. Having either being ruled or dictated upon isn’t how he would perceive life. They are continually growing in stature and the odds are that such interest is just a taste of what is to come. The band wants to concentrate on their live performances, and so they are looking for opportunities to play at live concerts/college fests or at pubs. This is evident when watching them, as it is here where they shine. It seems as if the stage is a place for emotional release, where they can perform without concern or compromise. The musical chemistry between the band musicians is clearly evident. They are all equally competent and fill the role extremely well.
The power of each song performed by the band is just exceptional – awesome vocals, awesome arrangement of instruments. Once the band starts performing they let you get lost into a real word of rock! A worth listen for each and everyone out there! Seriously! Brilliant Songs all round! Simply superb; Great music. All the band members are awesome at what they do. This band is amongst the few bands who revive the true power of rock/hard-rock/heavy metal- Attend a live concert from these guys and you’ll know that ‘Sounds Fishy’ will definitely be the best rock band around.
