Sowmya elected first Chief of Kaup TMC, Usman Deputy
Udupi: Sowmya Sanjeev and K H Usman of the Congress party were elected as the President and Vice-president of the newly formed Kaup Town Municipal council for the first 20 months on Saturday, June 4.
The president’s post is reserved for a woman of the Scheduled tribe, while the vice-president’s post is reserved for men general.
Sowmya Sanjeev represents the Kothalkatte ward in Kaup TMC, while Usman represents the Koppalangadi Ward.
Sowmya was elected unanimously, while Usman of the Congress defeated Arun Kumar Shetty Padoor by 11-13 votes. T Guruprasad Tahsildar Udupi conducted the election process.
Speaking on the occasion after her election as president Sowmya said that she would give priority to solving the drinking water problems and waste management in the Kaup TMC.
The newly formed Kaup TMC has a total strength of 23. In the recently held elections, the congress party won 12 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party has won 11 seats.
