SP Laxman Nimbargi Ensures free and fair elections in Udupi district

Udupi: The district police superintendent Laxaman Nimbargi said that elaborate arrangements have been made for the Assembly elections. He was speaking at a press meet held at the district police office here on May 10.

While assuring that the police have taken steps to ensure free and fair elections, he said, “Field-level police officials will be given detailed information to take adequate security measures in sensitive and very sensitive areas in the city. There are 1103 polling booths in which 226 have been identified as sensitive, 877 as normal and 54 as Naxal affected”.

Five legislative assembly constituencies come under the Udupi district police where 17 check-posts have been set up. We have deployed 45 flying squads and static surveillance teams, 16 companies of (Central Armed Police Force) 3 KSRP, 1 SP, 1 ASP, 6 DySP’s, 15 CPI’s, 32 PSI’s, 140 ASI’s and other policemen and officers have been deployed for bundobust duties. We have obtained 3835 weapons from the licensed gun holders. We have also booked 2232 security cases in the wake of assembly elections,” Said Nimbargi.

In view of maintaining law and order, 4818 rowdy-sheeters and 90 potential trouble-makers are under surveillance. The police and CAPF have conducted route marches across the district. Three persons have been booked under the Goonda Act.

38 MCC cases have been booked after the election model code of conduct was came in force. The election commission had seized Rs 96.62 lakh cash of which Rs 26.65 lakhs has been released after verification, he said.
