SP Laxman Nimbargi warns People Creating Nuisance in Public Places
Udupi: The district police Superintendent Laxman Nimbargi held the weekly phone-in programme at the SP office on Friday, August 3. During the phone-in programme, the majority of complaints were of the youth creating nuisance and inconvenience to people in public places.
Many of the calls received from Brahmavar, Udupi, Kota, Kokkarne, Ambagilu were about the nuisance by youth in public places. A woman from Ambagilu complained that youths gather on the side of the road and smoke creating a nuisance for pedestrians.
Another person from Saligrama under the Kota Police station limits complained that the youth tease girls and harass the public in the evening near the Halukote Ground in Saligrama every day in the evening.
Another caller from Kokkarne under Brahmavar Police Station limits said that some youth gather near the wine shop and indulge in eve-teasing women and girls.
Responding to the complainants, SP Laxman Nimbargi said, “Youth should not create any nuisance in Public places. The local police will start a drive against the road Romeos. If anyone creates problems for girls, women or the public, the police department will take the issue seriously and punish them severely”.
He also instructed the police officials to take strict action against those creating nuisance in public places.
A caller from Ambalpadi complained that transgenders visit every shop to beg and if small change is given, they irritate the shopkeepers until they are given more money. The SP said, “The officers will look into the matter and also warned the transgender community not to indulge in extortion and forceful begging. The Police will book cases against them if they receive complaints repeatedly”.
The SP also received complaints like Illegal liquor selling in Mandarthi, Illegal cattle trafficking in Padubidri, vehicles using high beam lights during night time. The SP instructed the police officials to respond such complaints immediately.
Replying to another complaint for delay in issuances of licenses in RTO office, the SP said that he will take up the issue with the DC and the RTO.
Later speaking to the media persons SP Laxman Nimbargi said that the department had conducted a special drive against vehicles with tint glass, using of illegal name boards on private vehicles and those not wearing the seat belt. A fine of Rs 3 lakhs was collected during the last two weeks.
After the previous phone-in programme, 28 Matka cases were registered and 30 persons arrested. 3 gambling cases were registered and 21 arrested. One arrested in one illegal liquor sale case. 6 persons were arrested in an NDPT case. 169 cases were registered under COTPA, 47 for drunken driving, 295 for shrill horns, 107 cases for using mobiles while riding/driving, 2862 cases for riding without helmets, 6872 cases for over speed and 4056 cases for other crimes under the Motor Vehicles Act.
The SP said that as the extradition charges are charged against the Matka culprits, the number of the Matka cases has come down, he added.

Guruprasad Bhat Manipal murder case
The SP said that the murder of Guruprasad Bhat, owner of a recreation club in Manipal, would not have taken place if the special committee, deciding over the invoking of Goonda Act, had approved against prime accused Ranjith Pinto and Sujith Pinto. The police already had sent the list of the duo to be charged under the Goonda Act. However, the committee delayed, the SP said and added that all the accused in the case are remanded in judicial custody till August 16.
The cause for the murder is the enmity that resulted out of personal insult. The accused were angered as Bhat had abused them and their mother, he said.
