SP Laxman Nimbargi’s Phone-in effect, 6500 cases booked in a month
Udupi: Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi said that around 6500 cases have been booked in the district after he took charge as the SP of Udupi.
He was speaking at the phone-in programme in his office on Friday, February 9. He said that in the last one month, 82 matka, 131 gambling, 21 NDPS, 254 Cotpa, and 6200 vehicle rules violation related (19 Drink and Drive, 260 shrill horns, 2471 helmet rule, 254 over speed, 3000 plus other motor violations) cases have been booked.
The district police decided to register security Cases against those involved in Matka in the last 3 years. Under the security bond cases, offenders will be produced before the Taluk Magistrate and register Rs 5 lakh security bond case against them, he said.
Speaking about the Naxal activities in Udupi district SP said that there is no Naxal activity in the district. All the police officials and the ANF team in the district have been instructed to maintain vigil in view of the Naxal activities reported in the neighbouring Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu districts. The Police personnel have been asked to visit remote areas of the district once a week and interact with the public and take steps to solve their problems. The information would be gathered about strangers visiting the villages, he said.
A caller said that private bus operators were threatening the government bus staff in Brahmavar and Hebri route. Replying to the caller, SP said that the issue will be brought to the notice of the Private bus operators and proper action will be taken against them.
Another caller said that some unauthorised people were parking the cars in front of the Junior college Uppunda under the Byndoor Police station limits, and teasing college girls causing inconvenience to the college students. SP replying to the caller said that he will take necessary action immediately and direct the Byndoor police to initiate action.
Another caller said that the water from fish transporting vehicles is spilt on the roads causing vehicles to slip, especially the two-wheelers. SP said that action will be taken against the fish transporting vehicles if they spill the wastewater on the road.
Various grievance calls related to illegal sand mining, Illegal quarry, vacuum horns, indecent activates in Mannappalla lake area etc. were registered in the phone-in programme. SP assured the callers of taking appropriate action.
