SP Nisha James flags off Udupi’s all-women ‘Rani Abbakka’ Police Patrol against Eve-teasers

 

Udupi: The Udupi district police has launched an all-women police patrol ‘Rani Abbakka’ force for handling cases related to harassment of women and school children.

Udupi district superintendent of police Nisha James formally flagged off the all-women police patrol ‘Rani Abbakka’ force at the Chandu Maidan on Tuesday, April 2.

Speaking to media persons SP Nisha James said today we have inaugurated the Rani Abbakka all-woman police patrol for Udupi City limits to handle cases related to harassment of women and girls. When I had worked in Chitradurga and Sagar we started the Obavva Pade. The Rani Abbakka police patrol vehicle will patrol areas like bus stands, railway station, shopping malls and school – college areas. The patrol team will deal with eve-teasing incidents the women police squads will patrol the streets in the city to deal with such incidents on the spot.

“The Obavva force comprises of only women staff and officers. They will patrol the streets in disguise to nab the culprits red-handed and arrest them under the Karnataka Police Act, 1963.

If any such eve-teasing incidents are reported in the city, women can lodge complaints to the police control room (100) or women police station (0820-2525599, 0820252644), she said.
