SP Office Should be Shifted to Puttur, Special court should be Set up for NDPS Cases – Ivan D’Souza
Mangaluru: The National Highway 66 is being constructed in an unscientific manner and a number of fatal accidents have taken place because of the incomplete work. The MP is not able to complete 45 kilometers of road in 10 years. Why do we need such unfit MP in power? How many years does he need to complete the NH 66 work? questioned MLC Ivan D’Souza in a press meet held at his office, MCC premises here on July 16.
Addressing the mediapersons Ivan D’Souza said, “In Nanthur, Pumpwell, Kottara Chowki and Mulki the highway work is being done in an unscientific manner. The rainwater instead of flowing in the drain, is flowing on the road and the MP says that the NH is constructed with good technology! Without completing the highway work toll is being collected and the MP is unable to stop it.”
Ivan further said, “From the past ten years Nalin Kumar is the MP of Dakshina Kannada. Earlier Sadananda Gowda was the MP, in his tenure, the State Highway (SH) was upgraded to National Highway (NH). Both the MP’s did not do any other work except naming SH to NH. The National Highway is not maintained well and the flyovers in both the districts are incomplete. What is the reason for MP Nalin and MP Shobha Karandlaje to remain silent in this issue? If the Highway work will not be completed soon, we will stage protests and shout slogans against the MPs”, warned Ivan.
NHAI office should be shifted from Shivamogga to Mangaluru. Now the project director is sitting in Shivamogga, and NHAI officials are not attending the KDP meetings. So far the NHAI officials are unable to solve the Nanthur Circle problem. When we question the officials, they are unable to answer. The NH officials say that the DPR is ready but they don’t do any work. The project director office should immediately be shifted to Moodbidri or Mangaluru”.
Shifting of SP Office to Puttur
SP office should be shifted to Puttur because in Dakshina Kannada there are 19 registered skill games and gambling houses. There are a number of illegal skill game centres and gambling houses. But the government says that no skill game centres and gambling houses are not operating in Dakshina Kannada without permission. I urge the government to open a special police station to find out the illegal skill game centres and gambling houses. The SP Office should be shifted to Puttur so that it will be easier for the SP to reach any place under his jurisdiction within a short time.
Special Court for NDPS cases
A special court should be set up to investigate NDPS cases. In three years 2,484 cases have been registered under the NDPS Act. So far only 182 cases have been solved and 142 accused have been punished. 40 cases have been dismissed due to lack of evidence. The conviction rate has increased by 90%. In the state, there are 30 courts investigating NDPS cases. To curb the drug menace and to investigate the cases, special courts should be set up”.
Raids on Petty Shops
Drugs are being sold in petty shops near schools and colleges. We see many youths being addicted to drugs. To curb the drug menace the home minister should direct the police officials to raid petty shops near schools and colleges. I have also noticed bars opening at 6:00 am in some places, the Police should take strict action against such bars”.
