SP Sanjeev Patil advises Morning walkers to beware of Chain Snatchers

Udupi: The Udupi district Superintendent of Police Dr Sanjeev M Patil advised the general public that with the temperature levels dipping and the winter season setting in the morning walkers should be aware of chain snatchers and muggers and advised them to avoid wearing valuable chains. The morning walkers have become the target in desolated locations.

He was speaking with media persons during the weekly phone-in programme at the SP office on Thursday, November 30, Dr Sanjeev Patil said that there have been many walkers especially women and senior citizens going for a walk in the morning wearing gold chains and ornaments. He advised people to avoid wearing gold chains during the morning walks so as not to become victims of the chain snatchers.

The SP also said that security has been beefed up in the district in the wake of the upcoming Eid-e-Milad celebrations. From December 1 to 17 a number of Eid-e-Milad programmes will be held in the district. About 124 prayer meetings and 64 rallies will be held. All arrangements have been made to ensure safety to the devotees taking part in the Eid-e-Milad procession and prayer meetings.

Issues ranging from gambling, shrill horn, driving without wearing helmets to over speeding of buses and traffic problems came up during the phone-in programme.

A caller from Indrali complained that unscientific road humps were installed on the Railway station road which has caused a number of accidents. The SP said that his team will visit the spot and check the humps, if found unscientific the concerned authorities would be instructed to remove the hump.

Another caller from Manipal complained that the drainage of the police quarters was blocked since many days, she requested to clear it. The SP assured that the problem would be taken care of soon by the city municipality.

The police also received complaints like toll issues, traveling on the footboards of buses, illegal sand mining, Ganja selling, illegal stone quarry and other issues.
