Special Kids” Unleash their ‘Special Creations’ at ‘Vibinatheya Sambrama 2018’

Mangaluru: If people say that differently-abled children don’t have commitment, dedication and talents? Then they are wrong- a visit to the special school project called “Vibinatheya Sambrama 2018” {Diversity Gala 2018} organized at St Agnes Special School (SASS) by the staff and students of St Agnes Special School on Wednesday, 12 September shows a new and fresh perspective that even Special Children can beat normal human beings in creativity and uniqueness. A creative display says a thousand words. These children with the help of their teachers have created some unique display of their creations-depicting their daily life activities, Music and Arts, Domestic Help, Crafts, yield from nature, food habits, food nutrients, etc etc

This project was designed to test the creative spontaneity and creativity skills of young children and to provide them with a platform to unleash their hidden talents- and the special feature was that the creativity and display was done by differently-abled children, with a little help from the Apostolic Carmel Sisters and teachers at SASS. The programme began with an invocation prayer rendered by a group of SASS children, followed by welcome address by Sr Shruthi AC, the Principal of SASS.

Prior to cutting of the ribbon to inaugurate the “Sambrama”, the Chief Guest for the occasion Rev Fr Vincent Monteiro, the Parish Priest of St Sebastian’s Church, Bendore-Mangaluru addressing the audience said, “Addressing the gathering, Fr Serrao said, ” This is a very good initiative taken by these special children in bringing out their creative talents and showing it them to others. St Agnes Special School, being the First school to start an institution for special children in DK, has given a boost to many others to start such schools for differently-abled children. And it’s nice to see that these children, although they are differently- abled have unleash their talents and creativity, along with their dedicated teachers in arranging this project on diversity. Good job and may God bless these special children”.

As a mark of appreciation and gratitude, two students of SASS offered a flower plant to chief guest Fr Vincent as a continuation of the School’s effort to diversity and green- the Mother Earth. Later the chief guest along with guests of honor-Sr Anita AC- Joint Secretary of St Agnes Special School Group of Institutions, and Ms Irene Pinto-President of PTA, and a bevy of Apostolic Carmel nuns took a tour and enjoyed the unique creations of these special children, which led to many “Wows”, and also compliments to the management, staff and students of St Agnes Special School. The programme was compered by Ms Philomena D’Mello- a SASS Teacher.

Diversity is about all of us, and about us having to figure out how to walk through this world together. Quoting former US President Barack Obama, “We need to reject any politics that targets people because of race or religion. This isn’t a matter of political correctness. It’s a matter of understanding what makes us strong. The world respects us not just for our arsenal; it respects us for our diversity and our openness and the way we respect every faith”. Diversity requires commitment. Achieving the superior performance diversity can produce needs further action – most notably, a commitment to develop a culture of inclusion. People do not just need to be different, they need to be fully involved and feel their voices are heard. This is a indeed a unique “Sambrama 2018” bringing awareness about Diversity. Long live these Differently-abled children who are making a difference in the society.
