Speed Thrills but Kills! 2 Rash Riders get 6 Months Jail for causing Deaths
Mangaluru: As the saying goes, “Speed Thrills, but Kills”- but in these two cases, it was not the two-wheeler riders who got killed, but they caused the death of innocent people, due to their rash and negligent riding. Sources reveal that the second additional JMFC court sentenced a motorcyclist to six months imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,500 on him for causing the death of another road user in an accident near Corporation Bank at Nandikoor {near Udupi} on February 19, 2016. The judge Shobha E found the accused Clayton Sharon guilty of offenses under sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) of Indian Penal Code.
Clayton Sharon, a resident of Kankanady in Mangaluru astride motorcycle (KA 19 EP 456) with a pillion rider, on his way to Padubidri from Karkala, rear-ended another motorcyclist Krishnayya (KA 19 EL 5689) resulting in the latter crashing his motorcycle into a lorry parked on the roadside and bursting into flames. Krishnayya who suffered grievous injuries in the process died at the hospital. Clayton and the pillion rider too suffered minor injuries in the process.
In another case, judge Shobha E had also sentenced another errant motorist to six months imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the accused earlier last week. The incident took place on November 1, 2015, near Sri Janardhana Temple when the accused – Rajesh Kotyan, a resident of Bada Yermal astride motorcycle (KA 20 EH 6525) headed for Padubidri from Udupi rammed into another motorcyclist – Rajan Achari who was on his way to Udupi.
Rajan who sustained grievous injuries died en-route hospital. The judge who heard arguments and counter arguments found the accused Rajesh guilty under sections 279 and 304 (A) of IPC and sentenced him. Then Kaup CPI Sunil Y Naik had investigated both these cases and submitted the charge sheet separately before the court, assistant public prosecutor Jayanti K, said.
