Sports Develops Competitive Spirit in Students – Dr Mohan Alva

Udupi: “Participation in sports activities would inculcate sportsman spirit among the students and prepare them well to face the world with grit”, said Dr Mohan Alva Managing Director Alva’s Education foundation Moodbidri. He was speaking after inaugurating the Annual Sports Meet at the Don Bosco English Medium School Shirva on Thursday, October 11.

“Time sense and discipline are the stepping stones for success and it will help every student to achieve their goals. Defeat and victory are common in life. One should not become too proud of the success and should also not break down during failures. Victory should be accepted with a level head and failure should be taken as a stepping stone for success. The fight to win is important and it helps to develop other qualities in human beings,” he said.

Prior to the inauguration, the Chief guest Dr Mohan Alva was accorded a warm welcome with a salute by the School Band along with the guests of honour of the day Fr Denis D’Sa (Correspondent, Don Bosco/St. Mary’s Educational Institutions), Fr Ashwin Aranha (Asst. PP Our Lady of Health, Shirva), Wilson D’Souza (Vice President Parish Council), Leena Machado (Secretary Parish Council), Melwin Aranha (Co-ordinator of Commissions) and Fr Mahesh D’Souza (Principal, Don Bosco Eng. Med. School) and escorted ceremoniously to the specially built dais on the occasion. It was a wonderful display by the school band played by the students of the school.

Fr Mahesh D’Souza welcomed the gathering and accorded a warm welcome to the Chief Guest Dr Mohan Alva and all other guests on the dais. The school choir sang a prayer song invoking God’s blessings followed by the felicitation of the guests of honour with floral bouquets by staff members. The sports flag was then hoisted by Fr Denis D’Sa.

The guard of honour by all athletes (8 squads) was received by the Chief Guest Dr Mohan Alva followed by the lighting of the sports flame by leading athletes in the District and state level.

The grand Don Bosco Eng. Med. School Annual Sports Meet 2018 was officially inaugurated by releasing the balloons by the guests of honour.

On the occasion, Dr Mohan Alva was felicitated by the guests with a traditional shawl, fruit basket, flower garland and a memento.

Those who performed well in the March-past were honoured with the trophy. All the squad leaders were also given trophies by the Chief Guest.

The oath taking ceremony was conducted by Prinston Gomes and the Vote of thanks was delivered by Shanthi Pereira.
