Spreading Green Gifts at Lakshadeepotsava
In a major move to increase green cover in Belthangady and surrounding areas, Ujire-based Siddhavana Nursery has put up its stall at the glorious Lakshadeepotsava festival being held at Dharmasthala. Millennials and mid-aged people are thronging into this stall to have their share of a glimpse of these green little creatures.
Siddhavana Nursery that runs under Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Programme (SKDRDP) headed by Dr. Veerendra Hegde is greening devotees at Lakshadeepotsava this year. Golden Cypress, an Ornamental plant and agricultural equipment, has become a major source of attraction since the past 4 days says Nishanth, staff while explaining about the different species of plants available. Hibiscus, Chrysanthemum and rose are the most fast-moving plants. Apart from these fruit and commercial plants like cashew, pepper and coconut are few of the other plants available at their nursery stall starting from a mere Rs 10 and goes on till 600. Selfie freaks are flocking in large numbers not wanting to miss a chance to get themselves clicked.
While SKDRDP’s main aim remains in providing quality seeds to farmers at a lesser price, it also motivates people to grow organic vegetables in their house.“ We don’t sit idle after selling the seeds, instead, we personally visit their fields to document its performance and also help farmers tackle problems during low yields” said Lokesh, Agriculture Field Supervisor, SKDRDP.
While it has provided a source of income to the farmers, it’s now time for the commoners to plant these green creatures in their areas. This apart, just planting saplings is not sufficient, people should tend to them and make sure it grows into huge plants.
