Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe in City-Enroute his visit to Sri Mookambika Temple in Kollur, Udupi District.
Mangaluru: Following close on its heels after Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje made his visit to the famous South Indian Sri Mookambika Temple at Kollur in Udupi district yesterday, 20 November, now its the turn of Sri Lanka PM Ranil Wickremesinghe who will be visiting the same Temple today, 21 November. The Sri Lanka PM who arrived this morning by flight at the Mangaluru International Airport was escorted to Hotel Taj Gateway-Mangaluru by a squad of Mangaluru police security and Sri Lankan security personnel.
The Sri Lanka was seen seated in a white Ambassador car on his way to the Hotel. This morning the Sri Lankan Prime Minister will visit the temple where he would participate in Chandika Homa and take prasadam. After performing the ritual, he will return back to the Hotel in the afternoon and then returns to Colombo-Sri Lanka tomorrow. Old Port Road and surrounding roads near to Hotel Taj Gateway, where the Sri Lanka PM is staying is closed for the timing for security reasons, until the PM departures. No one allowed to enter the Hotel without proper identity-even media was not allowed at the moment.

AIt should be noted that Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe who had planned his visit to Sri Mookambika Temple on 27 August 2017 was cancelled due to bad weather then- so he had rescheduled his plan for today, 21 November. According to the Kollur Temple administration, Indian and Sri Lankan security personnel have made necessary security arrangements for his visit.

It should be noted that M.G.Ramachandran, Late Guru Gopinath, Jesudas, Ilayaraja etc are great contemporary artists who were/are ardent devotees of Kollur Mookambika Temple. Mookambika as Mahalakshmi is the Goddess of wealth. So She can be worshipped for progress in business and profession. Mookambika as Kali or Durga will be helpful to secure health, extinguish ailments and eliminate enemies. That’s the reason many VIP’s visit this Temple. Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalitha has visited this Temple couple of times. Great artists like Ravi Varma, Swathi Thirunal etc were devotees of Sri Mookambika.
About Sri Mookambika Temple -Why People Throng to this Holy Place?
Mookambika is situated in Kollur village of Udupi District. Mookambika temple is among the most important shrines for Hindus in India. Mookambika Temple is also one of the most legendary temples. Mookambika Kollur is a small village of about 6 sq. kms in an area at the foot of Western Ghats. Kollur Temple itself is generally known as ‘Mookambi’ or ‘Moogambigai’ in Kerala and Tamil Nadu respectively. Though the Kollur Mookambika Temple is in Karnataka most of the devotees visiting the Mookambika temple are either from Kerala or from Tamil Nadu. Sri Mookambika is unique among the other Hindu gods and goddesses as she embodies the powers of Mahalaxmi, Mahasaraswathi and Mahakali combined into one as Adiparashakthi – Mookambika. Udbhava Linga (self-manifested phallus) of Mookambika Temple represents both Purusha (male) and Shakthi (female).
The establishment of the Mookambika temple is attributed to the Supreme, Lord Parameshwara, rather than to an individual person. Historically, the temple is estimated to be at least 1200 years old and is mentioned in conjunction with king Halugallu Veera Sangayya who installed an idol there. Kollur Mookambika Temple is one of the most hallowed shrines for Hindus in India. It is one of the holiest Siddhi Kshethras (abode of mystic powers) of the world today. Sri Mookambika is an embodiment of all divine powers. So she can be worshipped in any form. It is said in Skanda Purana that the jyothirlingam of Sri Mookambika is the unification of Purusha and Prakruthi.
A sojourn to this temple is equivalent to praying at thousand temples. Legend has it that Srikrishna along with Rukmini and Sathyabhama observed Sambavrutham at Mookambika Temple. Indra, Suratha, Kashyapa, Bhargavarama, Sage Shukracharya, Sage Bruhaspathi, Pradyumna, Lokadithya Brahmana, Samadhi Vaishya etc were other epic characters who did penance at Kollur Mookambika.Mookambika as Saraswathi is patron Goddess of education and fine arts. She can be propitiated for progress in education and accomplishment in fine arts. Great artists like Ravi Varma, Swathi Thirunal etc were devotees of Sri Mookambika.
