Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Math Ascends Paryaya Peeta
Udupi: Sri Sugunendra Theertha Swamiji along with his Junior Sri Sushreendra Theertha Swamiji of Puttige Math ascended the Paryaya Peeta at Sri Krishna Math in the early hours of Thursday, January 18.
The Swamiji had a holy dip at the Dandateertha in Kaup as per the tradition at 1:30 a.m. He entered Jodukatte in Udupi at 2:30 a.m. After offering puja rituals to Pattada Devaru, the Paryaya procession commenced.
A grand procession, in which a number of tableaux and cultural troupes took part, began from Jodu Katte at 2.50 a.m. People stood on either side of the road to get a glimpse of the procession comprising ‘chande’ and ‘bhajan’ teams.
The procession passed through the Taluk Office Road – Court Road – Diana Circle – Thenkapete, before culminating at the Car Street.
After entering Car Street, Swamiji had the darshan of Lord Krishna through Kanakana Kindi. Later, he offered prayers at Chandramoulishwara, Anantheshwara temple.
Later he took Charge by receiving the Akshaya Patre and a silver spoon and ascended the Sarvajna Peetha. The Swamiji then presided over the Paryaya Darbar held at Rajangana along with other dignitaries and graced the occasion.
The Puttige Swamiji’s ascension gives him the right to worship Lord Sri Krishna and manage the affairs of the Math for the next two years. The idol of Lord Sri Krishna was installed at the temple by the exponent of Dvaita philosophy Sri Madhwacharya about 800 years ago. The Swamijis of the Ashta Maths propagate this philosophy.
