St Agnes Special School salutes Nation on 70th I-Day

“We owe a lot to the Indians, who taught us how to count, without which no worthwhile scientific discovery could have been made.’’-Albert Einstein

“India is the cradle of human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the grandmother of tradition.”-Mark Twain

“Freedom has its life in the hearts, the actions, the spirit of men and so it must be daily earned and refreshed – else like a flower cut from its life-giving roots, it will wither and die.” – Dwight D. Eisenhower.

Mangaluru : India today celebrated its 70th Independence Day on 15 August 2016, with renewed enthusiasm and patriotic fervour. This day is celebrated all over India with great joy; all Indians remember their national leaders and freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives to gain independence for the country. This day in 1947 marked the end of India’s struggle against British rule and the beginning of a new era for the country. In India’s capital city of Delhi, a large number of people gather at the Red Fort, where the country’s prime minister Narendra Modi hoisted the national flag, followed by a commemorative speech. The celebrations end with the recital of India’s national anthem, the Jana Gana Mana.

Even locally here in Mangaluru, differently-abled children of St. Agnes Special School Saluted the Nation on the occasion of its 70th Independence day. The flag hoisting was done by Allan Pereira a well wisher of St. Agnes Special School and the ex- chairman of Syndicate Bank. The children despite their disability performed wonderfully and paid their homage and Respect to the nation, through a patriotic song which described the greatness of our tri- colored flag. They also danced to the tune of the song “Vande Matharam”.

The rhythm, the formation, and the feelings expressed by them were marvelous. They also depicted the various freedom fighters and recalled their sacrifices for our great Nation. The chief guest also appreciated the performance of our children and encouraged them to work for our nation. The programme ended with a wonderful performance by the teacher trainees of St. Agnes Teacher training institute for special education.

The whole programme was witnessed by the parents, PTA executive members and our well wishers

What a lovely joy to read this article and offer a whisper of prayer within myself for the wonderful job that St. Agnes Special Education School renders to the lovely children of all ages and genders. Its a heart moving feeling to notice so many children come from their respective homes and enjoy their whole day in the midst of other children under the loving care of the nuns and rest of the teachers. The talents that the children display and the expression of gratitude that they present each time is something that no words can describe. The noble work… Read more »

I fully AGREE with the kind words of appreciation of Max & Jessie Rasquinha about the St Agnes Special School. It was the pioneering effort of the Apostolic Carmel which saw these special children blooming into self-managing adults and no more a source of worry and anxiety to their parents. It has been and continues to be an extraordinary endeavor. With over 300 students under its care , not all of whom are capable of contributing the very moderate school fees, this wonderful institution soldiers on hoping to be noticed and supported by all who have a concern for these… Read more »
