St Aloysius B. Ed College observes Intl Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
Mangaluru: Educational institutions are to be concerned with the well being of students and society as well. The increasing addiction for drugs by the youth is alarming in the present scenario. In order to develop an awareness about the consumption of drugs and their consequences in the would-be teachers the St Aloysius B. Ed College in collaboration with Kripa Foundation-an organization battling against chemical dependency and HIV aids, observed the ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.’
Elias D Souza, Asst Manager, Kripa Foundation, was the chief guest. The chief guest explained the meaning of drug addiction, symptoms and consequences on mental and family health.He cited various examples of teenagers addicted to drugs in Mangaluru City. He ended his speech throwing light on the various addictive substances available in market today and the need for awareness among the parents required in this regard.
Guru, a recovering-addict and an active member of Narcotics Anonymous gave his testimony about the effects of drug consumption and the dreams and relationships he lost. He also invited the audience to reach out to the addicted persons and guide them to de-addiction centers
Dr Mrs Farita Viegas, Principal, said in her address, ’Anti Drug Day is an educative programme. Schools and colleges need to observe this day. Teachers must be aware about the dynamics of their society and students as well. Teachers must be persons of care, concern and compassion. Thus they can bring back persons addicted to drugs.’
The students under the guidance of Ms Delna Lobo, Vice Principal, organised this day of awareness of addiction. Shreya and group welcomed the gathering with their a graceful dance. They also enacted a meaningful and relevant skit depicting the entry of youth to the drug world, under the theme, ‘say no drugs.’ Royal SJ played a video clip depicting the need for observing anti drug day in educational institutions. Eric and group sung an action song titled, ‘five cheerful friends.’ Rebecca BS administered ‘say no drugs’ oath to the audience. Lehera BS and group invoked God’s blessings. Esther welcomed the gathering. Jesintha BS delivered the vote of thanks. College Anthem was sung at the end of the programme.
