St Aloysius B. Ed College observes World Environment Day
Mangaluru : St Aloysius B. Ed College, a leading institute of teacher education of the city observed the world environment day here on the theme ‘better environment for better tomorrow’. Dr K. V. Rao, Director, Regional Science Centre, Pilikula Nisarga Dhama (former
Professor of St. Aloysius College), was the Chief Guest.
The chief guest in his speech said, “Every year World Environment day is celebrated on the 5th of June to spread awareness, to encourage people to take action and to protect the environment. For a healthy living, environment plays an important role. It provides us air, food, and other resources. Researchers have proved Pollution is increasing day by day which resulted in degrading the environment and poor health. The deterioration of the environment has caused the depletion of resources like fossil fuels, air, soil, water, ecosystem and it is a global task to control the environment from being polluted” Further he told that we have to recognize that the Earth also has rights to live without pollution, therefore, we need to come together to combat against pollution with action plans.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal of the college, Dr Farita Viegas, said, celebrating environment day in educational institutions is really a campaign to bring some positive changes in students’ attitude. Environmental issues are big and everyone must be aware and give their positive efforts to solve them. Youngsters and students are big hope to bring positive changes in the environment and conserve it for the future. This day invites us to become active agents of eco-friendly development and ensure the safe future of our planet.
The students showcased a dance-drama highlighting the significance of planting trees and conserving greenery. Sr Savitha BS rendered the welcome address. Sushmitha D’ Souza highlighted the significance of celebrating World Environment Day. Sr Preethin UFS and her team performed a group song. Kimberly Monteiro proposed the vote of thanks.
Sr Judith UFS and Anju jointly compered the programme. Santhosh Furtado, Staff coordinator organized the programme.
