St Aloysius College holds Orientation for World Youth Parliament (WYP), Mangaluru

Mangaluru: The Orientation of the World Youth Parliament (WYP), Mangaluru was organized by St Aloysius College (Autonomous) with the theme “Peace Under Construction” held in Eric Mathias Hall, Maffei Block on 21 July 2018. The inaugural function began at 9 a.m, where RJ Kajol was the Chief Guest and Fr. Martin Panakal was the guest of honour. Principal, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ presided over the programme. Staff Co-ordinator, Anup Denzil Veigas was also present on the dais.

World Youth Parliament is such forum where young people commit themselves to explore the foundation, and bases of a new society. It is an impassioned network to all youth who are looking to put unity, aim and meaning into their lives, both personal and social, projecting a future world that must be better than it is now. The principal Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ in his Presidential Address spoke about the importance of such forum that helps us lead a moral based life.

The students were addressed by RJ Kajol who through her life story gave an inspirational talk of how we have to respect and understand the feelings of transgenders, help them live like others in the society which touched the hearts of all youth present. The very creative and enthusiastic speaker Fr. Stany Pinto gave a clear description of peace and it’s construction using entertaining tools like quotes, videos, stories and a very inspiring presentation that motivated all of us to work with unity and bring a change within ourselves and outside.

It was very grand that the ex-student of the College, Mr. Roshan Lobo came to motivate freshers of WYP and shared his experience in Beijing as a member of WYP. He also informed the students about the upcoming WYP conferences which are going to held in Spain and as future what is expected from the students. Fr. Martin Panakal from Cochin briefed the students regarding what is the Idente Youth and how is it linked with WYP. He also spoke about the ideologies and the main motive behind starting Idente Youth.

Another very active member of WYP, Sr. Steffy, who spoke about “What is WYP? Who can participate in WYP and What are its motives? Students from St Paul’s Bengaluru and School of Social Work, Roshni Nilaya were also present. It clearly described the ever ready hands to heal the world and make it a better place.

The orientation was wrapped up by electing the secretary and other office bearers to local and national level talks regarding issues taken up by the WYP. Anup Denzil Veigas welcomed the gathering. Rupal D’Souza, II B.Sc. compered the programme. Avit Premson Lobo, II B.Com. rendered the vote of thanks
