St Aloysius Gonzaga School celebrates 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

Mangaluru : “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others- Mahatma Gandhi. St. Aloysius Gonzaga School paid homage to the great leader and visionary, Mahatma Gandhi on 2nd October 2019 at St. Aloysius Gonzaga School hall. The Gonzagaites participated in the Gandhi Jayanthi celebration with great enthusiasm. Dr Rose Veera D’Souza, Associate Professor, HOD Department of Political Science, St Aloysius College (Autonomous) was the Chief Guest of the day.

Principal Fr. Melwyn Lobo SJ and the Vice-principal Ms Jacintha D’costa were the other dignitaries. The Chief Guest, Dr Rose Veera D’Souza spoke on Gandhian ideals, compassion towards humanity and also emphasized on the importance of Shramdhan. The Principal in his address mentioned about Gandhi’s purpose of life and aspiration of the people. He advised the students to withstand the challenges with courage.

The programme commenced with a “Sarv Dharm Prarthana” by the scouts and guides. A cultural programme based on the theme “Principles of Gandhi” was organized to impart awareness on the greatness of Gandhi and his role in the freedom struggle to make India an independent nation.The significance of the day was given by Ethan Pinto of class VI, a patriotic dance was performed highlighting the life of Gandhi, a video presentation on “Gandhian values” was presented and a skit depicting Gandhi’s love and compassion for the people was presented.

Various competitions were conducted on account of Gandhi Jayanthi and the winners were honoured with certificates. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Rhea Sequeira of class VIII followed by the National Anthem. Thereafter, the unit of scouts and guides took part in Shramdaan. The celebration left an indelible mark on Gonzagaite’s about the unforgettable contributions of the Father of our Nation towards freedom struggle and the values he practiced and advocated.
